Liverpool – City of Culture 2008

Jun 05

Liverpool BusRarely do I get four hours to just fritter away but I needed to renew my passport in Liverpool today and was given ample time to kill around the city. I took my camera and strolled around from coffee shop to museum to coffee shop to riverside, snapping away in the gorgeous sunlight.

I tried a few ‘concept’ shots in response to some of Dave Severn’s latest works with the ‘Vicious Circles’ project over at CreateWhat?! in mind. I even remembered some of Dave’s tricks that he taught me – bracketing and the rule of thirds. Not that you can notice the application of those skills but I am now at least thinking about them!

Down at the Mersey I was approached by a policeman who had spied me on CCTV and wanted to know why I was taking photos of rubble near government buildings. I couldn’t really offer a sensible reason or at least I didn’t want to try and unravel the mysteries of concept photography to the officer. After reviewing a number of my shots, he advised that I should find somewhere else to be ‘arty-farty.’ I agreed and scurried off to drink yet another coffee.

Good job I wasn’t in Greece – I might never have made it back ;-)
