Digital Doodling

Blogging Pen

During my keynote yesterday at the Portsmouth Virtual Learning – Future ICT Conference. I handed out my camera and encouraged folks to take photos of whatever took their fancy, passing the camera along the rows while I was speaking. The results of this ‘digital doodling’ were really interesting and give another take on proceedings. I later uploaded the results to Flickr which demonstrated nicely the relationship between creativity and Web 2.0 tools.

Delegates were also encouraged to take photos with their cameraphones and post them to the conference blog.

And if you did it with a language class they could post a comment to go along with it reviewing the lesson/being creative in French (or any other language). May have finally found a use for mobile phones in class.

Brilliant idea! Never thought about it like that.

Brilliant and simple! Love it. Will try it out immediately in class. Question: you said you uploaded the photos to Flickr later, but what did you do with the photos during the presentation? What did you tell the audience as to the purpose of them doing this? If I could upload the photos to Flickr right then and there, “before your very eyes!”, that would be even more impressive and cool. And if they were young impressionable children….instantaneous godship!

I sell it to them as an exercise in creativity – Uploading immediately is great for the instant feedback if you have a internet connection. I also like to run the slideshow at a later session in the day to ‘remind’ the participants of what we did. From my point of view, I love the fact that it gives another ‘take’ on proceedings. I’ve also used the phone to flickr tool to encourage folks to post directly to a blog which goes down quite well as well.
